Job Seeker Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Orientation FAQ
Call America's Job Center at 325-HIRE or toll-free at 1-800-203-2623 to get the times and place of a center near you. You will need to arrange your own child care for those 2 hours as this orientation is done in a group. You may complete a reading/math exercise at the end of the orientation.
Please review this checklist to learn what documentation you may need to bring with you to orientation.
If you have attended orientation within the last six months, you do not need to attend again until that 6 months has expired.
Enrollment FAQ
WIA enrolled means you have attended an orientation about our services, had an in depth appointment with an intake specialist about your employment and/or training needs and have qualified for funding under one of our many grant funded programs to receive intensive job search services and may also qualify to attend a vocational training program at no cost to you.
Training Courses FAQ
At least 18 and out of school. If you are under 18, you should talk to your counselor to see if you might qualify for one of our special youth programs.
Program entry requirements are discussed at the orientation and vary depending upon the training program. In addition, opportunities are subject to change due to funding changes.
We may be able to help you with child care while you are in training classes. Talk to your career advisor about this once you are scheduled to begin training.
Some training programs, such as auto mechanics and welding, require a California Driver's License as do many of our job openings. However, we do have training and jobs that don't require one.
The only way to determine if you are able to receive training is by attending Orientation first. You will need to be released by your doctor to attend training AND to return to work.
It is up to the Employment Development Department to make that determination. You should call the Employment Development Department and ask for information about California Training Benefits. Call 1-800-300-5616 for more information.
